Symposium 2014

Army Institute of Management, Kolkata, conducted the annual symposium on 15th Feb 2014. Experts and professionals from various spheres of industry and academic converged for the event, which had the theme, “Ethical Management”. The event was divide into three sessions:

Session I (Finance domain): Role of Auditors/ Ethical ways of managing finance

Session II (Marketing domain): Ethical marketing practices

Session III (Human Resources domain): Ethical way of People management

The event started with the inauguration at 10.00 am, wherein the Director of AIMK, Maj Gen (Retd.) Dr. S.C.Jain addressed the audience. Subsequently, the session on Finance started at 10.15 am and finished by 11.30 am.

Four speakers participated in the finance session:

  1. Mr. DevSadayDutt (KPMG, ITC, Tata, etc)

  2. Mr. ProdiptoBanerjea (Retired as EVP Finance, ITC)

  3. Prof. Arif Ahmed (Professor and Director, South Asian Management Technologies)

  4. Mr. Sujit K. Arvind(DGM, RBI)

The speakers used a variety of media (oral, PowerPoint, slides) to impress upon the audience, the significance of ethical financial management, and its implication. The session was moderated by Dr. Mousumi Bhattacharya, Faculty, AIM.

The second session on Marketing, started at 12.30 pm and continued up to 02.00 pm. It was moderated by Dr. Malini Mazumdar, and saw participation from three speakers:

  1. Mr.Biplab Bose (EMC Power Ltd.)

  2. Mr.Rajesh Sen ( Regional sales and marketing manager, ITC Sonar)

  3. Dr.AyanChattopadhyay( Regional Sales Manager, LG)

The session was followed by a Q&A session in which both students and faculty members participated.

The last session on Human resources was from 03.00 pm to 04.30 pm, and was moderated by Prof. Robin Sengupta, Faculty, HR, AIM. The speakers for the session were:

  1. Mr. S. K. Ghosh ( Retired as Head HR, L&T)

  2. Prof. Ajay Majumdar ( former visiting faculty at AIM)

  3. Mr. Nataraj Ray ( Indian Society for Training & Development)

This session focused on the core HR concepts related to Ethical Management, and its importance at the workplace and other spheres of life.

Overall, the event was a huge success, and provided a good platform for students and professionals to synergize and interact with each other.
